All About Wedding Insurance.
The last thing any bride wants to think about when planning her wedding are all the things that might go wrong. It’s understandable that you would think that way, but keeping your fingers crossed in the hope that everything will go smoothly is a bad idea. Wedding insurance can help protect you against unforeseen events and can will also give you peace of mind that if things do go wrong at any stage, whether it be during the planning stage, on the day or on honeymoon, your covered.
What is wedding insurance and how does it work?
Every penny you spend or are intending to spend on your wedding is an investment into your big day. Wedding insurance protects that investment from circumstances beyond your control and reimburses you for any loss. However the payout you receive will depend on the level of cover you choose when you first take out the policy.
Why Get Wedding Insurance?
Here are some of the things a policy can cover you for:
Cancelled due to poor weather, injury, illness or death
Double bookings
No show of a supplier
Cancellation or bankruptcy of a supplier
Loss or damage of gifts, rings, cake, wedding attire
Professional counseling
Legal expenses
Public Liability
Delayed travel
Remember though that a wedding insurance policy cannot work miracles, for example if a photographer does not show, you will be recompensed for the inconvenience caused not the memories that were not captured on film. An insurance policy would recompense you for the cost of a replacement photographer, which may cost more due to the booking being a last minute booking and refund any deposit made for the photographer who did not show.
How Much Does Wedding Insurance Cost?
A basic insurance policy could cost as little as £30 and cover you for up to two years. Each insurance company offers different levels of cover at different prices. We would recommend that you speak to at least three wedding insurance companies before making your final decision.
Do You Really Need Wedding Insurance and when should you get it?
We would always recommend taking out wedding insurance as soon as you start planning your wedding, as unforeseen thing can happen at any stage of the planning process. For a small investment of less than £100, you could end up being covered for thousands of pounds, if the whole wedding has to be postponed or cancelled. We would also recommend that you, check with your each of your suppliers to see how well they’re covered and request a copy of their policy and insurance certificates.
What Does Wedding Insurance Cover?
Problems with the venue, weather, suppliers, sickness and injury are the top concerns for the wedding day. There is usually a specified maximum amount, which can be claimed under each section of the policy and a policy excess will apply to the whole policy. We would recommend that you make sure you know exactly what you are covered for before taking out a policy, never assume that the cheapest premium will cover you for all eventualities.
What Wedding Insurance may not cover
A change of heart e.g. cold feet
Pre existing medical conditions
Circumstances known to you at the start of the policy
Loss by deception, willful or malicious act of vandalism
Things to Consider
Every insurance policy and every wedding scenario is different. Make sure you talk to your insurance agent and have them explain the policy to you in detail, so that you fully understand what you are covered for.
