Personalise your wedding vows in 6 easy steps.
If you think writing your own personal wedding vows is difficult - think again. Here are six easy steps that will make this task a doddle.
1. Talk to your fiancé (e) and your officiant - Make sure everyone is OK with your idea to personalise the wedding vows. Is your fiancé(e) happy to do it? Does your religion require you to use the certain words or phrases?
2. Where to start - Sit down with paper and pen and try to answer questions like these: What is the best thing about your fiancé(e)? When did you know that you were in love? What does marriage mean to you? Why do you want to be a married person?
3. Take some inspiration from an expert – If you are still at a loss as to what to include in your wedding vows, take some time to read through some poetry, love stories or famous writings about love. Note down the words that appeal to you.
4. Put it all together - Select the very best bits from the things you have written down and put them into a short paragraph.
5. Practice, Practice, Practice - Read what you’ve written to a trusted friend or family member. This may help you identify parts of the wedding vows that need to be improved. Once you’ve worked out a final version, practice reading it as many times as you can to make sure you are comfortable with it.
6. On the day of the wedding – Have two copies of the wedding vows. Keep a copy and give a copy to the best man/ chief bridesmaid so that nerves don’t spoil all of your hard work.
